Owner-Side Guidance for Expats Building or Renovating in Mexico
ExpatBuilds helps expat owners understand the construction process in Mexico from the owner’s side before key decisions are made.
We help you understand how decisions connect, where things commonly become unclear, and what may need to be asked, verified, documented, or reviewed before you hire, approve, pay, continue, or move forward.
That way, you can have more informed conversations with your team, spot risks, stay better organized, and move the project forward with more structure and confidence.
What We Do:
ExpatBuilds provides owner-side education and advisory support for expats building or renovating in Mexico.
We help owners understand the construction process from the owner’s side, including how the process may differ from what they are used to, what typically needs to happen before a project starts taking shape, and how one decision can affect the next.
Our advisory support can help you think through bids, quotes, estimates, budgets, payments, scope of work, timelines, responsibilities, communication, documentation, proof of progress, remote oversight, and professional roles.
ExpatBuilds does not manage your build, supervise contractors, inspect work, or replace licensed professionals. We help you become a more informed owner before key construction-related decisions are made.
A Message from the Founder
I created ExpatBuilds after going through the building process in Mexico myself and seeing how quickly important decisions can become confusing for expat owners.
Even when you are serious, prepared, and asking questions, the process can still feel unfamiliar. Quotes may not be fully itemized. Roles may not be clearly explained. Payments, timelines, scope, materials, permits, communication, documentation, and oversight can become difficult to understand if you do not know what to ask early.
I saw how often expats were making major decisions without enough structure around the process — not because they were careless, but because the system was unfamiliar and the information they needed was not always clearly presented.
ExpatBuilds was created to help owners slow down, understand the decision in front of them, and know what should be asked, checked, documented, or reviewed before moving forward.
My role is not to replace your architect, engineer, attorney, notario, contractor, inspector, accountant, project manager, or other qualified professional.
My role is to help you become a more informed owner before key construction-related decisions are made.
Warmly,
Maria
Founder, ExpatBuilds
